Hi, it's Ivo. These are the 3 plugins with the most installs in Anthropic's official plugin marketplace. For each one you get the line to install it, what it does in plain words, and what it can touch on your computer. At the end there are 3 checks to run before you install any plugin, not just these.
Before you install anything
- You need Claude Code open in a terminal. The official marketplace (
claude-plugins-official) is added for you the first time you start it, so the lines below work as they are. - In a session,
/plugin installdoesn't install straight away. It opens the plugin's details first, so you can read them and choose where it applies. - Anthropic's own docs say it plainly: "A Claude Code plugin you install can execute arbitrary code on your machine with your user privileges." Read the details before you press install.
1. frontend-design (1,134,112 installs)
Made by: Anthropic.
Install line:
/plugin install frontend-design@claude-plugins-official
What it does: It adds one skill that Claude uses on its own when you ask for a page, a site or an app screen. The plugin's README says it "generates distinctive, production-grade frontend interfaces that avoid generic AI aesthetics". In practice, Claude picks a look for your subject before it writes code, and it skips the defaults that make every AI page look the same, like the same fade-in on every card.
What it can touch: Nothing by itself. It's one SKILL.md file with instructions. No hooks, no MCP servers, no scripts.
Try it: "Build a one-page site for a dog groomer in my town. Pick the look first and tell me why."
2. superpowers (1,009,371 installs)
Made by: Jesse Vincent, not Anthropic. It's listed in Anthropic's official marketplace, and the code is open (MIT licence) at github.com/obra/superpowers.
Install line:
/plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official
What it does: It changes how Claude works on a project. It has 15 skills that switch on by themselves. Before any code, Claude asks what you really want. Then it writes a plan in small tasks and writes a test before each piece of code. It can also hand each task to a fresh sub-agent and review the work after each one.
What it can touch: It has one hook. Every time a session starts, clears or compacts, it runs a small bash script that loads its main instructions into Claude's context. The optional visual helper for brainstorming runs a small local server, and it loads a logo from the author's website that tells them which version you use. To turn that off, set the environment variable SUPERPOWERS_DISABLE_TELEMETRY.
Try it: "I want to add a contact form to my site." Then watch it ask questions before it writes anything.
3. code-review (438,525 installs)
Made by: Anthropic.
Install line:
/plugin install code-review@claude-plugins-official
What it does: You run it on a GitHub pull request. It sends several agents through the change at the same time (the README says 4, the command file says 5). Each one looks from a different side: your CLAUDE.md rules, obvious bugs, and the history of the code. Every issue gets a score from 0 to 100, anything under 80 is dropped, and the rest goes into one comment on the pull request.
What it can touch: GitHub, as you. It uses the GitHub command line tool (gh) with your login to read the pull request and post the comment. You need gh installed and logged in. No hooks, no MCP servers.
One thing to know: Claude Code now has its own built-in /code-review. When both are there, the plugin's command shows up as /code-review:code-review.
3 checks before you install any plugin
- Who made it? On its claude.com/marketplace page, look for "Made by" and the "Anthropic verified" mark. Not verified doesn't mean bad. It means you read more carefully.
- What's in the folder? Open it on GitHub. A
hooksfolder means it runs commands on its own. A.mcp.jsonfile means it starts a server. Onlyskillswith SKILL.md files means it's just instructions. - Ask Claude. Paste the plugin's README and its hooks file into Claude and ask: "What does this read, run or send?" If the answer isn't clear in a few lines, don't install it yet.
