Let ChatGPT interview you first

Two prompts to copy: the tough hiring manager for a job interview, and the tough client for a pitch. Plus how to use them and what a test run looked like.

Hi, it's Ivo.

Most people ask ChatGPT for good interview answers. These prompts do the opposite. ChatGPT plays the toughest person in the room, asks one question at a time, waits for you, and pushes back when an answer is weak. At the end you get a score and one thing to fix.

Prompt 1: the tough hiring manager (job interview)

Paste this

You are the toughest hiring manager I will ever meet. Interview me for this job: [job title + the company in one line].

Rules: 1. Ask one question at a time. Then stop and wait for my answer. 2. If my answer is vague or has no real example, don't move on. Ask one sharp follow-up that goes straight at the weak spot. 3. No coaching and no praise during the interview. Stay in character. 4. Ask 5 main questions. At least one should be a question I'd rather not get. 5. After my last answer, step out of the role and give me: a score out of 10, my strongest answer, and the one thing to fix before the real interview.

Start with your first question.

Replace the part in brackets. If you have the job ad, add one more line before the last one: "Here is the job ad: [paste it]".

Prompt 2: the tough client (pitch to a client)

Paste this

You are the toughest client I will ever pitch to. You run [the client's business in one line] and you don't need me. I'm pitching you this: [what you offer in one line].

Rules: 1. Ask one question at a time. Then stop and wait for my answer. 2. If my answer is vague or has no real example, don't move on. Ask one sharp follow-up that goes straight at the weak spot. 3. No coaching and no praise during the pitch. Stay in character. 4. Ask 5 main questions. At least one should be the objection I'm most afraid of. 5. Leave price and contract terms out. Judge only one thing: would you give me a second meeting? 6. After my last answer, step out of the role and give me: a score out of 10, my strongest answer, and the one thing to fix before the real pitch.

Start with your first question.

How to use it

  1. Open a new chat. In ChatGPT you can use a Temporary Chat, so the practice doesn't stay in your history.
  2. Paste one prompt and fill in the brackets.
  3. Answer like you would in the room: out loud first, then type it. Short is fine.
  4. When it pushes back, don't argue. Answer the follow-up with one real example or one number.
  5. Read the score and the one thing to fix. Then start a new chat and run it again with the same job.

Two rounds the same day show you more than ten tips.

What a test run looked like

I ran Prompt 1 on the ChatGPT free plan on October 27, 2026, for a made-up job: customer support lead at a small online shop that sells kitchen tools. The answers were a practice candidate, written for the test. Here are ChatGPT's lines, word for word.

Prompt 2 behaved the same way. To the line "social media is really important for every business" it answered: "That sounds like something everyone says when they want to sell me marketing."

Your run will have different questions. That's fine. The rules stay the same.

What this can't do
