Hallmark: check your own site for the AI look, step by step

The install line, the audit command, how to read the report, and the honest part. As of 27 October 2026.

Hi, it's Ivo. Hallmark is a free design skill for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. It was the number one repo on GitHub trending on 27 October 2026, with over 37,000 stars. It can build pages in 48 themes, but the part I'd start with builds nothing. /hallmark audit reads a page you already have and tells you what makes it look AI-made. It doesn't change your page. Here is how to run it on your own site.

What it is

Before you install

Step 1. Install it

Open a terminal and paste this:

npx skills add nutlope/hallmark -g

-g installs it for every project. Leave -g off to install it only in the folder you're in. In Claude Code it lands in ~/.claude/skills/hallmark.

Step 2. Run the audit on your page

Start Claude Code in your project folder and type:

/hallmark audit ./index.html

Put the path to your own page instead of ./index.html. A folder works too. If your site runs on a dev server (Next.js, Vite and the like), start it first and tell Claude the address, for example: /hallmark audit http://localhost:3000.

Step 3. Read the report

The findings come in three groups:

  1. Floor. Must fix. Contrast you can't read, no focus ring for keyboard users, a layout that breaks on a phone, made-up facts.
  2. Reflex. The defaults AI falls into. This is the "AI look". You can keep one if you have a reason.
  3. Finish. Small craft details. Nice to fix, never urgent.

Each finding points at the line in your file, so you can fix it yourself or ask Claude to fix that one thing.

The AI tells it looks for

These are from the Hallmark README, word for word:

  1. "the eyebrow above every heading" (a small label in capitals over each title)
  2. "tracked-capital labels" (CAPITAL LETTERS WITH WIDE SPACING)
  3. "one coloured word in a headline"
  4. "a page of empty frames or nothing but photographs"
  5. "a hero that misses its screen" (the top section doesn't fit the first screen)
  6. "an email sign-up at the end of every page"
  7. "a form that says thanks without sending anything"

What I saw when I ran it

On 27 October 2026 I asked Claude Code, with no skill installed, for a one-page website for a made-up physio clinic. Then I ran /hallmark audit on it. It took 79 seconds. The page file was exactly the same afterwards (I checked its fingerprint before and after).

What it found, in plain words:

It also said what to keep: the booking block with the real address and hours, the prices and the team.

Try the same on your page. If it flags numbers, check every one before anyone else sees the page.

Want it fixed, not only reported?

Make a backup copy of your page first. Then:

/hallmark redesign ./index.html

A full redesign keeps your text, links and forms, and changes the look and the layout. Say keep the layout and it only restyles. Say polish and it fixes only the AI tells. It asks you three short questions before it starts.

One thing a redesign won't fix: forms. It keeps your form code exactly as it is, so a form that only pretends to send still pretends. Ask Claude to connect it to your email or booking tool as a separate job. On my test page the redesign took about 8 minutes.
